Georgia Law (20-2-690.1) states that any child between the ages of 6 and 16 who during the school calendar year has more than five days of unexcused absences from school will be considered truant.
After a child has 3 unexcused absences, letter #1 will be mailed home. After 5 unexcused absences, letter #2 will be mailed home. After 8 unexcused absences, letter #3 will be mailed home and parent will meet with the school counselor to complete an attendance contract. If unexcused absences continue to be a concern, the parent/guardian will be referred to the school social worker.
**TO AVOID UNEXCUSED ABSENCES**
